Tutu rigging? Closed

Need advise on on setting up a tutu. Attached screenshot of what I would like to do is have the tutu drape over the leg when a kick is colliding with it. I tried cloth simulation, however, the gravity dynamic then moves the rest of the tutu down, which I don’t want because I want the tutu to remain at the original position throughout the animation since it is stiff. I do want it to go over the leg. Should I just rig the two piece tutu with bones or is there a setting I don’t know about to return a mesh after a collision back to it’s original position when the colliding object pulls back?

That way the tutu will remain in its starting position, and the dancer will be happy.:stuck_out_tongue:

As you say, cloth sim might be difficult to properly set up…
I would rig the tutu (maybe 4 to six bones around the body) and animate the secondary action manually. You could still get some automation into it by setting up drivers which take over some of the job (like front tutu bone moving up when the thigh bone moves up etc). In order to be able to fine tune the driven bone animation, you would have to weight paint the tutu to a set of child bones which are parented to the driven bones. This way you still can manually animate the tutu where the driven animation doesn’t satisfy.

Thanks. I’ll give it a shot.
