Two architectural scenes

Hey all!

Here’s a couple of environments I worked on last year.

La Tourette is a visualization of Le Corbusier’s La Tourette monastery built for an architectural competition. Most of the building is explorable–since I worked from photos there are a few areas that I couldn’t find information about.

The other environment is a small scene used for the Dragon*Con workshop I taught last year. There’s really nothing to do but look around–the workshop was about building a level in Blender and had to be simple.

The Demo Installer uses Inno Setup and is my first attempt at using an installer; it’s nothing fancy but it works.

The zip file has the same files as the installer, but is useful for non-Windows users–the two .dat files are just renamed .blend files.

Critiques and comments are welcome.

Thanks, and I couldn’t have finished these projects without the forums!

Hello
nice work!!
Corbusier’s building is nicely recreated, very precise/neat, but I couldn’t use the interactive mode in linux (2.45), so only inspected the file, that looks a bit “flat” ( to be picky  ) graphically ( all those “light gray”)
More “dramatic” lighting, maybe?!
And the environment it’s just “wonderful/frightening”!
Great!
The use of Q key its not a good choice I guess?!
Bye

OTO,

You’re spot on about the shading; this was my first serious attempt at vertex shading and I sort of focused on getting the walls and ceillings separated. The chapel should be very dark, but my early attempts looked terrible and I didn’t try again. I really enjoy painting shadows by hand, so I’ll need to work on a technique for adding some drama.

The second scene was influenced by Tim Burton designs (specifically “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) and “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”. To see an even more frightening version, remove the fog and vertex shading! The two door textures came from mausoleums in Atlanta’s Oakland Cemetery.

What did the the Q key do (or not do)? I tested it from within Blender (2.43) and it worked correctly–displaying the end credit scene.

Thanks!

Hi again
you can easily increase “drama” entering Vertex Paint mode and play with
Mul: and Gamma: and then “set” a few times?!

The Q problem…well it have not worked in my linux/2.45 and is a key that changes often with keyboard layouts “azerty/qwerty”

Bye

I’m working on a big Project called WSAG

I would like to build in as many Locations (that exist in the real World) as possible.
So I’m asking you if you would like to donate your La Tourette Location to my Project.
What you will have to look for if you are sending me Scenarios:

  • I will need (Google Earth) Coordinates of the Upper right and the lower left Corner…
  • The Measurements have to be: 1Blender Unit = 1 Meter
    Note:
Please keep in mind that the WSAG Project is open to everybody what means that everybody can use and change everything in this Project for his own use… Of course it would be great if they would give Credit…
Would be great if I your Location would become a part of the WSAG Project
    Hope to hear from you
    OldJim

Sorry for the posting delay–I’ve been looking for a new job and it’s been nothing but rewriting resumes and brushing up on my programming skills!

Thanks for the Mul and Gamma suggestions, OTO; all this time I’ve been ignoring those buttons and the ones up the right side. I read about them a bit on the Wiki and I’ll need to make some time to experiment with them.

Also, I’m glad the key problem is related to the specific key; is there a better choice that’s more keyboard agnostic?

OldJim: I can’t donate the model at this time–I’m working on recombining and optimizing the meshes, fixing some areas I built wrong, and adding more information; since the original model was built with no materials, this is taking a while. Having said that, if you have another smaller building in mind, I’d like to build something for your project–my Terminal Station project is on hold for a bit and I could use a small project to work on.

I almost always work at 1BU == 1m, so that’s no problem. Textures are generally 512x512 and tiled, with vertex painted shading. Blueprint sources are nice but not necessary, and I can actually get a lot done with just a few photos.

Let me know!

Thanx a lot for your offer.
Basically Any Building(Highway, National Park, or any other Location) is very welcome only Criteria is that it exists in the Real World and is delivered whit the Google Erath Coordinates of the Upper right and the lower left Corner.
But if I could make a call: a Pyramided of Egypt would be cool or a Small Harbour or Lighthouse….
Thanx a lot for your offer and I’m really looking forward to your scene.
And always keep in mind This Project is a developing continuously so it’s no Problem if a scene is not totally finished at its first release, it can always be updated at a later Version… This way other People that would like to build something that’s near by your location can use your scenario and build from there… this will help that the same thing will not be build 2 Times…
Thanx OldJim

@Vantulo
Some Time has pased and I just wandet to ask if you decided to Build a Senario for WSAG. If so what scenario are you building? Googel Earth cordinates…
