This doesn’t seem to be anywhere, but is there an easy way to tie knots in Blender? Also, this is another issue, but I’m trying to tie a ribbon, which would wrinkle when you tie it. Is there a way to simulate this in blender?
It’s Not too difficult. First, draw a curve in the shape of your desired knot. You must press the 3D button in the buttons window (located on the curves and surfaces pannel) in order to use the curve in 3D space rather than it’s default 2D plane. Second add another curve that is in the shape that you desire to follow the first curve. Third, Type the name of the second curve in the BevOb window (located in the buttons window…F9 Key) of the first curve. You can find the names for your curves by pressing the N Key to bring up the transform properties window. Finally, you can adjust the resolution of your curves via the “DefResolU” setting also located in the curves and surfaces pannel. This may become an important aspect regarding how much wrinkling you are able to achieve. Otherwiser, convert the curve to a mesh with Alt+C and then work with the verts. Once you do this the mesh can not be reverted to curves.
As for your second question it is often not desirable to distort the second curve with wrinkling but it will often happen anyway due to the geometry of the first curve. It may happen reasonably well in your case anyway. The ammount of distortion can be adjusted by rotating and scaling the bezier handles of the first curve. All I can say is play with it to learn your way around the process. Also, you can do this with nurbs curves, bezier curves or a combination of the two, at least according to the documentation. I rarely use nurbs because I have such a hard time with them.
