Just finished my model for the Typhoon class submarine; made it on actual blueprints, with full details.
So far I have finished the external assembly; soon will add some interior compartments.
Here are a couple of renderings (Cycles, my materials, my textures).
I like the model. But you should think about redoing the materials of your submarine. They seem to be 100% non reflective. Even if submarines arent that glossy coated in real life, their paint is not either 100% diffuse. Especially because they are usually wet. I did not recognize a submarine at your last picture (brooklyn bridge) until I found the “chrome like” funnels and periscopes on top of it. The shape of your boat is nearly invisible - because the materials are killing every single light ray around it…
Agree with jero3D. In addition, maybe the black should be more of a dark grey or blue-grey to allow for some better visibility. The model looks very nice but it’s hard to see the details due to the textures!
@ Jero3D and @pleskinen: I do agree; I’m working on it, but the sub’s material being anecoic&stealth, it’s almost non reflective at all. But it lacks the ‘wetness’. I’ve checked a lot of Soviet Navy photos, and the anecoic material was really blackish. It appears rusty on the edges of each anecoic tile (welding), but only on dismantled vessels. It’s not easy to have a dull suface with just some ‘wetness’ reflectivity. Will post some developments soon…
Regarding the ‘Brooklin Bridge’ Render: well, the idea was really to have the Akula barely visible, because of the ‘stealth’ material. But I do agree, some moon rays should bounce on the hull anyway, especially in those conditions.
I think it’s better now; still, I assume that a nightshot will look blackish anyway…may be I shoul further increase hull’s glossiness for the nigtshots only.
I would really appreciate you opinion: thanks in advance.
