It’s really great. I have the same rig. I modified it for blender. Your animation of it it is way better than anything that I’ve managed to do. I also love the comedy.

The rig is really good, wouldn’t make sense to rebuild one. Apart from that, it just take many hours to do a decent animation, no secrets here.
As mention above, lighting and render done in blender, using cycles. Smoke fx, also done in Blender and render it in cycles.
