I designed this small old Spanish “Tienda de Ultramarinos” (grocery store), set in the 1930s-1940s. Every detail has been carefully considered to try and capture the essence of these shops, which were incredibly important in Spanish life at the time, from the products on the shelves to the traditional architecture.
And I always thought Ultramarines were a Warhammer 40k thing…
Great work, love the fact it depicts something modest, a far cry from popcultural klichees.
A rare example of a digital genre painting, if you will, which I always appreciate.
Haha, no, that’s what these stores were called here in Spain. Some still exist, despite the times we live in, but I highly doubt this meaning of the word is known outside of Spanish culture. I tried to give it something different: products, architecture, and a bit of local storytelling. Thanks for your comment.
