Unicode / Special characters in Blender 2.6

I looked around for a solution with no luck and finally discovered one on my own:

  1. Open Character Map in Windows
  2. Select the special characters you want, copy it into your buffer
  3. In Blender, change your editor type to “Text Editor”
  4. Text -> Create New Text Block
  5. Paste your special characters
  6. In the object tab (F), save the datablock by pressing the “F”
  7. Go back to your 3D view, create a text object with your desired font, and simply load your saved text object.

Problem solved. Posting this solution here because I couldn’t find it anywhere else on Google, and I always appreciate it when people post solutions to problems they solve.

Thank you for this valuable tip:cool:

In Blender 2.67 steps 6 and 7 are a litlle different.
After pasting the special characters, select the text and click on the Edit menu of text editor (bottom) and choose option “Text to 3D object”. The selected text will be placed in the 3D view as a single object or as multiple objects for each line. For unicode characters, you must change the automatic system font (B-font) to one that supports unicode (e.g. Arial, Verdana, … or the one you have used in Character Map).
