I will probably need to start the kissaki (blade tip) over, as I misplaced a few vertices (visible as a color change). The other part I will rework tomorrow is the habaki (brass collar between the tang and the blade).
Iād put the knife on a table or in a weapon rack. That abstract background that you are using ATM doesnāt fit the theme IMO. And i think that more detail is also welcome (in the brass part section,ā¦)
wow shinyā¦ make it less shiny and whats wrong with the top of the blade? is it supposed to be like that?? It looks like someone just weld it on it . add some textures on the handle thing and but it on a table or something its at least better then this backgroundā¦
The tip problem was kinda hard to fix, I am still trying to repair that part of the model. The handle and the rest of the mounts will come way later on.
the tip seems to be a subsurf/smooth normal screwup. Check normals. The tang (Iām guessing the end bit is the tang, not a handle) is tiny, even for a tanto. the blade to handle ratio is about 1.7, and a good tang goes through the entire handle. Not too sure, but I think even tanto have blood channels.
Last bit, for extra credit, is adding the forge line across the blade.
the tip was caused by edge mis-alignment following an attempt at distal tapering. Correcting the error destroyed the edge geometry, so Iām back to square one: remodelling the whole thing.

The proportions come from an ubu tanto in my collection, it is early shintoā¦ I also have a shinto katana whose nakago (tang) would be considered a bit short for a wakizashi by modern requirements. The standard proportions mainly apply to modern (re)productions.

On tanto, the bohi (āblood channelsā) were often added long after the forge. The objective on tantos, unlike katana/wakizashi, was not to make the blade lighter without sacrifying structural integrity but mostly to conceal defects such as deep pitting or open layers. They could also be added to decorate the blade, but they would then be added along with horimono (various carvings like dragons, gods, mantra, ā¦)

That part is going to be funā¦ The only way I see to correctly represent hamon (āforge lineā) and hada (āfolding grainā) is to split the object up and have multiple textures (2 textures for hada, 2 textures for hamon).
