Unwrap a sphere top pole, help

So I am uv unwrapping a chess piece, using the uv grid texture for it and I did almost everything with follow active quads, except for the pole of the sphere (the sphere is joined by vertex with the body of the chess piece).

In this case I am using the blender sphere with triangles at the poles, and I really don’t know a good way I could unwrap it. I think of using a cube sphere or even converting all to tris, because its for a game asset, but then it would not be possible to use the follow to active quads I thinks

Please if somebody know how I can do this, tell me, I really apreciate any help

  1. select the pole vertex
  2. hit + to grow the selection
  3. hit Ctrl+E and click on Mark Seam
  4. hit U and select Unwrap
  5. in the UV Editor, enable sync select (the Sync select button at the bottom)
  6. with the selection unchanged, hit V (Stitch) and left click to confirm
