UPBGE roadmap and eevee render engine?

I remember there was a roadmap of upbge what will expect in the next release.
My big question is UPBGE will fork blender 2.8 and will use eevee as render engine?

I have no idea personally.

I reckon Youle made a branch that used eevee as renderer for the engine back in december, but I ignore what happened to that after BGE was removed from 2.8.

I’m youle :smile: Still have a branch where I plugged eevee on bge/upbge but it will remain at experimental stage. I have no idea if panzergame wants to update upbge for 2.8.

upbge will continue to use 2.79 for now, but it doesn’t matter because 2.8 will only be finished 10 years from now. remember how long it took to finish 2.79? 2.79 is the final version the same way 2.49b was the earlier final version. all the inbeetwen like 2.5, 2.7, etc, lacked essential features of a 3d tool, i remember 2.76ish lacking the BEVEL TOOL. 2.8 also lacks a lot of essential tools since it’s still in development.
the next release of upbge will come out soon, they changed it to 3 months to add new features and 1 month to fix bugs. 0.2.4 has a lot of improvements:

  • bullet 3
  • hardware skining
  • texture attachments. this allows us to send things like normal data to a buffer that can be accesed from a 2Dfilter, and create shaders like SSR, wich means unreal like metalic surfaces, glossy reflections and more.

there are also proposals to incorporate PBR to the shading, upbge will soon look as good if not better than eevee.

2.8 missing essential tools will likely not be as noticeable as 2.5 series, 2.5 coming from a fresh api rewrite and core systems being replaced.
