Using a color of the image or a movie clip as a mask for compositing

Sorry if this topic label doesn’t make any connection to my comment, but I’ve tried finding any other topic that appeared which closely resembles the question, so this topic label is the closest there is…so apologies in advance.

I have experimented with compositing methods for my Blender images and animations, and the compositing ROCKS!
I even tried learning the basics of the masks, which is fun, but then I ran into a problem.

I wanted to use the image or a movie clip as a mask, but nothing I’ve tried seemed to work out.

Is there a way I can use the picture or a video as a mask in the Compositor?
Any advice and help are appreciated!

If you’re mixing two images you can use another image / image sequence / movie as the factor between the two.

You can also use the Set Alpha node to mask an image based on another image, like this:
