In light of the recent usage of Blender for scientific visualization I present this Fatemid kilga (google it, it’s a water holder and, in this case, purifier) I made to find out how it used to work. The British Museum says that a physician advised people to use this to purify the Nile’s muddy water. It seeps through a pot and goes to the lower chamber:
