Using POVray on mac

I am running Blender 2.8 on a Mac. My goal is to render using the Persistence of Vision Raytracer (POVray).

I have enabled the POVray add-on, but nothing is showing up in my renders. (I’m just getting the gray “alpha” checkerboard.)

I’ve read this might be because I need to manually download and install POVray. But I’m not seeing a mac version. Does a workable mac version exist?

Or is it already installed by default in 2.8, and the blank view is the result of some other issue?

Thanks!

Hello, There are two solutions available : either using a) Homebrew or b) a more up to date build from the traditional provider. both are linked on this page as well as more details to follow the recommended installation process : https://wiki.povray.org/content/HowTo:Install_POV#Mac_OS.2FX Enjoy!

I’ve been having the same issue getting POV-ray to work in various versions of Blender (most recently in 3.1), i’m on macOS 10.13, I’ve tried downloading a few different versions of POV-ray that work for Mac, most recently the exact files and procedure that you linked and it still doesn’t work, I can activate the add-on, point it to the binary and include location, but when I update the add-on I get the error:

Do you know what I might be missing here about this? Also i can select POV-ray as a renderer but I can’t actually render. There are even POV-ray specific modeling tools included in Blender 3.1 but they produce the same error when I try to select them.

Thanks so much in advance for any insight you have!

PS I do have a version of POV-ray 3.7 that works fine on it’s own, I just would really really love to be able to model & render in Blender
