UV/Image Editor Image Files

I have two UV Maps. I find that when I load an image file while one of them is selected in the Properties Editor, that image is in effect for both of them UV Maps. Is there a way to make the image file in effect for just one of them, while leaving the other unaffected?

I made a video for previous thread on how to texture paint, but it also shows how to use 2 images for 2 different uvmaps on the same model. Hope it helps.

why would you need that? as far as i know, ur using two UV maps for texturing. for this you can simply use two materials.
if you use the UV maps for modifiers, then the modifier will have an option to spesify witch UV map you would like to use.

I am attempting to place a tattoo on the body of a MakeHuman MHX2 Cycles import. My attempt at this can be downloaded at:

When I loaded the file “TS Tattoo Expanded Canvas.png” into the UV/Image Editor while “UVMap Tattoo” was selected in “Properties Editor => Data => UV Maps” I expected it would be for that UV Map only. Instead it affected both “UVMap Body” and “UVMap Tattoo” UV Maps, with the result that the tattoo appears not only on the thigh where I want it to be, but also in a second instance spread out all over the body where I do not want it to be.

The reason the tatoo shows up on the rest of the body too is because the tatoo uvs has the body’s uvs too. Select the body uvs and just weld them together (press W for weld) and move them in the corner where alpha channel is on the image. Just so that its out of the way and not affected by the tatoo’s texture.

Thanks for your reply. I will study this. A concern I have is that the tattoo appears to have a black color. I need as an end result the same pinkish color it has in the tattoo’s png file.

Yes I made it black so that it stands out on the screenshot.

I did the weld as you show in your screen shot. I made no change to the nodes in the Node Editor. The weld solved the problem of there being a second instance of the tattoo all over the body.

The first time I did it there seemed to have been another problem created. Something had gone wrong with the “UVMap Body” mapping. The mapping between the vertices and the file //textures\young_lightskinned_male_diffuse.png was been lost. I saw this because the nipple and lip coloration is now the same as the rest of the body. A correct mapping would make them different.

I did this a second time starting with the a file that is identical to the one I uploaded. This time it worked without a problem. I do not know what is different.

This technique is effective for one tattoo. But is seems there can be only one tattoo image file for all the UVMaps. So how would one apply more than one tattoo, each from its own image file?

You can just create another uv map for the new tatoo…

Then face select a view faces where you want the tatoo to be and press U > unwrap…

Thats the nodes I added for the new tatoo. Hope this helps.
