Uv mapping transparency

Im trying to use the card thing… whatever method for making hair. You know, you make planes on the head and uv map a texture to it. I’ve seen tutorials talk about using materials and stuff, which is fine, but can’t I use the UV editor for this, and get the transparent areas to be transparent?

So I guess the basic question is- how do have transparent areas with uvmapped textures?

You need to make an alpha map out of your hair texture. Then assign it to UV for the mapping and then utilize the ALPHA channel to affect the texture.

Also, your material for the hair mesh needs to be set to 0 alpha as well.
