UV painting

Wow, blender 2.40 is wicked as.

I’m having another quick and sloppy go at UV mapping and I was wondering how do I use the painted picture in the UV editor and apply it to the mesh?

In potato mode, the UV texture works as you can see but when I come to render the image, this happens:

Any ideas anyone? A simple question for you guys right?
