UV Unwrap creates a huge mesh web

Hello guys, my first post here is regarding a problem I’m having when doing the UV Unwrap of my character. I’ve included some screenshots as examples and note, there are way too many seams on purpose, to show you how simple seams turn into such a messy web of uv unwrap. Hope you can help me! Thank you very much in advance!
I’m using Blender version 2.74 on a Macbook.


Try unpinning all those vertices in the UV editor
Ensure your seams are placed correctly
Ensure you have no double vertices
