Vertices snapping to the other side of the mesh

Hello i am very new to using blender and i am following blenderguru’s donut tutorial as you might have guessed from the title i am having issues with part 4 of his tutorial aka the icong part.i have activated face nearest and snap to same target at first but that caused it to clip to the donut mesh behind plus it gives jagged lines i saw some people recommending face project which workef far better but now it snaps to the farthest point of the mesh
Please tell me how to prevent this from happening

Maybe recalculate the normals?

I should have bookmarked that, it comes up often enough. Maybe I remember to do it this time. :wink:
