Hellu,
After discovering John Atkinson Grimshaw’s night time city paintings i got inspired to make something in the same general vein in Blender. Decided to go with a two color palette in a yellow hue with a overall eerie style set in a imaginary harbour and fish market area called stillwater.
The only thing I see here is … featureless darkness punctuated by a very few dimly-lit windows.
To start with, illuiminate the outside. This should be “high key” lighting, very contrasty and probably mostly blue-gray. (For some reason, Victorian scenes tend to be on cloudy days.)
Ouff, harsh, but i’ll take it. As its a WIP project it does leave a lot to be desired right now, i don’t think you’re wrong there.
As there are a lot of light sources in the scene that still need to be added(more windows from other buildings, street lamps etc) i am hesitant to focus too heavily on getting the lighting dialed in for the moment but i will keep your words in mind going forward. Contrast should be in the right direction after removing blanket volumetric fog though.
