video for the bacground image?

First off, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but here goes…
Is it possible to use video for the background image? this would be real handy for, say, a motion-capture style thing, where I could match a character up with a real life person in a video clip.

You mean like the in the editing window?
If so, there would be no point in having a video, you would just need to take a screenshot of each frame (or extract them somehow), and then load each frame sequentially, and model the character as required…

I mean to match the motions of an already-modelled/armatured/etc. character to that of a real person in a video clip (e.g. for a fight scene, so motions are more natural) sort of an alternative to motion capture programs/hardware

it would be much easier to just load a video rather than load each frame of a 10 minute long sequence manually (at 25 fps, that’s 7500 frames)

The only way I know how to add a video clip is to make a plane and add the video. But you don’t have to make 7500 frames. You could just snapshot the frames where the person makes a major move like when he has hes fist back to punch then when he punches instead of the hole shot that’s 50 frames long. That’s all the help I can give.

Just make a texture with the movie, and set that texture as the background image like so:

BTW, the right place to post this would be in one of the forums in the Support section.

will the background animate when you advance frames though? because that would really help.

Yeah, it will.

You could also have gotten that answer by trying it yourself.

I did try it, all that happened was my computer froze for a while and then no image showed up, what format does it have to be?

nvm, i got it to work, I was trying to apply an ‘image’ not a texture, I later made a texture of the movie, then applied that texture.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have blender simply recognize an .avi in the image dialog thing?

Okay, thanks, this will make movie making a lot easier mor me.

wouldn’t it be good to have a simple ‘anim’ option close to ‘image’ - not having to f… with textures etc. - just load, press one more button and go.
