Video / frame playback manipulation

hi guys,

I have come across this topic in your forum, but they were asked a long time ago.

I would like to use an fcurve probably from an audio file to increase and decrease frame rate playback. If

Is it possible in blender to manipulate the playback of video frames?

In other words dynamically manipulate playback in forward and reverse direction and speed.

Any clues, tools or addons that you know of would be greatly appreciated!

The only thing that comes to mind is using the NLA - Non-Linear Animation - Editor.

After you set keyframes for whichever property you’re animating, open the NLA and you can ‘push down’ the keyframes into an Action.

Once you have an action in the NLA Editor, you can animate its Frame Start which would give the appearance of going forward and backward through time.

It wouldn’t affect every object in your timeline, but it would allow you to drive the start time of the animation with an f-curve.

The big issue that you need to get around is that your timeline will need to move from start to finish to render your scene, so you need to work out a way to play things ‘backwards’ while still moving the playhead forwards.
