Video (youtube, vlc,...) lags when blender is focused

Hi,

just bought a brand new laptop, MSI katana 17

if I click on blender, doing nothing, empty scene, default cube, youtube lags, vlc lags too, I tried

blender not only keeps other softs to use the local graphic card, but is not even using much of the Nvidia RTX card

  • I just updated my nvidia drivers, used the studio drivers
  • I have set CUDA/ Nvidia GTX4070 in blender

anything I could do to solve this ??

even my old crappy laptop can read video while using blender

thx for your help

As far as I can tell, you would not see any GPU utilization in task manager unless you are actually moving around in the 3d view.
Have you tried turning on Hardware Acceleration in your browser or in VLC?

I tried setting apps affinity to their respective gpu
done tons of update

then I realized, once I started using Blender on the main screen, and edge on the second screen(wacom linked via hdmi), no more issues

which sucks, I cannot paint/sculpt and watch a video

no wacom update to install
fiddled around in nvidia control center, the refresh speed should be 120hz, but I dont find any option

maybe the nvidia is not linked to the hdmi output at all

this sucks to say the least

Maybe you should try to use only discrete GPU without the integrated one

I get a tad better result, disabling “use hw acceleartion” in edge

otherwise it just uses both gpu

indeed did not even think about going to msi center lol

hey, discrete mode thing seems to work, no more lags
