viewport FPS

I noticed some people who talk about bad performance in the viewport list their frames per second, is this an option in blender? I have a machine at work that uses an nvidia gtx card, and my home machine uses a radeon hd. I’ve got a scene that sort of chugs in the viewport on my nvidia card and I want to compare it to my amd.

So is there a way to view the viewport FPS?

Thanks,

File menu -> User Preferences -> Interface, check “Playback FPS”

CD38 Beat me there, never mind!

This seems to only work when you hit play on the timeline, I supposed it’ll work but is there no way to see straight viewport performance? Not playback performance. Thanks.

I’m not sure what FPS means for straight viewport performance, but you can use all the viewport functions like editing, navigating, etc. during playback. Set the End frame to something like 50 or 60 and hit Alt-A, so it replays over and over. You get a continuous readout of FPS. Try turning a modifier like Subsurf on and off to see how FPS changes.

All I meant was there a way to see frames per second without having to have a timeline running, I wasn’t sure if having it run thru the timeline would decrease frames even more, basically I want to know the FPS while I’m rotating my model around. Anyway not a big deal I was still able to test my GTX 480 to my radeon 6870, radeon was more that double the fps, and when I turned on VBO worked even better with ATI, the nividia barely improved. Thanks.

Good to know, i want an amd card now.
