Viewport normal map Render

Hey, I’ve been trying to follow this tutorial on how to make Real time fur:

And I’m stuck on the begining. The Tutorial talks about creating some basic strands which I have done and then creating Normal, Transparency and Color maps from a side view in the Viewport. In the case of the tutorial it’s being done in Maya, but I don’t own Maya so how I can achieve the samething in Blender?

Is you hair made or particles or meshes ?
You can only bake normal maps from meshes so if you have particle hair try converting it to a mesh

Sorry, I forgot to mention it, it has been converted to a Mesh. What do I do from there?
