Wakka Walker

[Edit for thread thumbnail]

Hi Everyone
Trying something different to challenge myself today. Had an idea to do a “Chicken Walker” mobile platform inspired by Pac Man of all things
I got the basic blocking down and starting to go into some basic detail. I think I also got a good idea of how to rig the legs but we’ll see when we get there, so don’t get too attached to the design.

I think I’m reasonably content with the profile. I’ve added some medium frequency detail and slapped on one of my procedural materials to give it a grimier look.
I just need to finish up some of the construction elements, mainly the legs and dashboard, and then I can get to hand painting in some stuff. Come to think of it I might take a detour into the equipment in the trunk just to do something different.

Hmmm… “recent Star Wars® 'droids” meet a frog.

Finally forced myself to finish modeling. There are still so many things I want to correct, but this will have to do. I wanna see it walk and I don’t have too much time to work on it so I need to move on.
I added a few bits and bobs, rounded the cockpit somewhat, and I’m off to rigging. And maybe just a little polishing. Not too much.

Well, I had a little time to work on a very basic leg rig. I got some IK chains set up on each leg segment to control mechanical motion, and then a more general IK chain for the whole leg to give me a bit more control.

Unfortunately, this still resulted in a rig that behaves more like an FK than IK, but it’s a start, and it shows me where I need to change the design to accommodate for the motion.

Back to the drawing board

Cute little guy!

Okey dokey. Nearly there now. Got the rig to work ‘almost fine’ :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: So here’s a few shots of the little knob running. Basically, the project is finished but I want to make short test animation to see how the rig behaves under more extreme conditions, so I know what to improve on my next project.
