Walckenaeria acuminata (Blackwall, 1833)

Male and female models of my favourite spider Walckenaeria acuminata (sometimes known as the periscope spider). This small spider (male = 2.8mm, female = 4mm) does not produce webs (for capture), only eats other spiders, and is found across Europe and further afield.

Both are modelled to scale and include diagnostic features such as the metatarsal trichobothria and tibial spines. I omitted/simplified some features to keep the specimens at sensible polycounts (male is 40K, female is 32K) but it is otherwise as accurate to life as I can make them.

More details about the project can be found on my artstation portfolio here. Hilariously, the hardest scene to make was the sample vial enclosure.

Thanks to @higgsas @zeroskilz @AlphaChannel for help with the geometry nodes system for the hairs (and anyone else I might have missed). There is a lot of geometry nodes stuff in these scenes, I don’t know how we managed before.

Any comments welcome.
