Warp a mesh grid to object shape

Hi people,

I tried to find a solution to warp this mesh grid to this object, as the warp modifier gave me random results.

Is there any non destructive way using modifier to warp this grid to the object ?

thanks !

You can try it with Cloth.
It’s not 100% accurate, but you’ll get quite good results if you play a little with the parameters.

When you’ve loaded the blend, press the Play-Button in the Timeline.

Nice idea thanks, I will try this when I get back home.

I’m sure you could set up a surface deform/shrinkwrap/corrective smooth combo to get you there, but I like to use non destructive methods sometimes, so if you have a sort of even quad based mesh you can just go with a couple of simple modifiers, that way you don’t have to commit to the shape if you want to change it -

It’s for a complexe front grill air intake for a car, with uneven forms ( like the lexus cars ), I don’t know if it’s possible to make it fully in an none destructive way.

ah, got you… makes sense… could be used in combination with a shrinkwrap though, it’d get you like 80% there and just use that to project the more intricate forms.
