Hey everyone,
I just released a procedural “Wear & Damage” material on Gumroad and wanted to share it here since a lot of people on this forum have asked about realistic surface imperfections before.
It’s a fully node-based, parametric material where you can dial in different types of wear directly from a few sliders:
- Dust accumulation
- Rust
- Grease/grime
- Surface cracks
Everything adapts to the geometry (edges, crevices) rather than being a flat texture overlay, so it works on pretty much any hard-surface asset without manual masking.
I built it after modeling a modular dungeon kit (also free on itch.io if anyone’s curious) and kept running into the same problem everyone mentions here: getting believable wear without hand-painting masks every time. This material is my attempt at solving that with a reusable, adjustable node group.

Happy to answer any questions about the node setup if that’s useful to anyone working on something similar – always glad to compare notes with others doing procedural materials.
