Ok, I am going to try to use my new found character development skills in the weekend challenge. Here is my concept art, I traced the gavel and drew the base, but the character is just a reference silhouette plucked from the internet.
This is for the challenge so it has to be …fast!
First I am going to work on the gavel and base, get them out of the way, and then on to our character.
Gavel Head Finished. I have finally bit the bullet and started using the gimp. I created my concept image with it, and I plan on texturing/color correcting my entry with it as well.
Finished the base, tweaked shadows and lighting, setup render layers to further adjust shadows.
@ Robo: It’s another copy of the model, with a wireframe material, and the z-offset applied, takes some tweaking to get it right so I have prepared an example blend for you.
Working on my little friend, got the shirt done, going for pants next. I am saving the hardest parts for last, opposite of my usual workflow, since time is of the essence and he could be just a silhouette to indicate that bankruptcy could happen to anyone. I hope to finish him though.
Took this shot to get a sense of final proportions/framing. It’s going well IMO.
No, but I really like the subject. In fact the topic has given me an idea that I want to do but seriously (put some time and detail into, un-rushed), but also might end up too controversial, I’m not too sure. Either way, I am motivated to work on it (hopefully very soon). Currently I’ve been working a stepping up animation possibilities (2 current projects) & animation seems to be a time sink. I just need faster workflow (experience), I should like to do another weekend contest tho sometime soon.
He is no longer headless! Working on proportions, I like the size of hands, feet, and head finally. Next we tackle the frogman look and get more friendly…
@ YoungApprentice - Actually the pockets are sticking out, I might reduce that effect, profile is key, but I think it has a cartoony feel this way. It’s not meant to be accurate, I’m going for stylized. Thanks for your opinion though!
I’ve been helping my son with his sketches, he’s 9…lookout he’s coming up. I’ll get back to work in a bit, still a long road ahead,
Finished the head. Am I completely happy with it? No. Do I have to move on because of the deadline? Yes.
I’m probably going to take a stab at materials before I rig, again if time just runs out, I 'll have something at least.
@ Quandtum thanks for the nudge, you are too right. I am planning on learning some things with this guy before I take on that one. (I am scared of the wings, I can’t lie). I have rigged before, just never a model I cared about as much as Keyji.
