Weird screen effects in Solid Viewport Shading

Hello,

I’ve been seeing some strange artifacts or screen weirdness when working in Solid Viewport Shading. See pic. Anyone know if I’ve accidentally turned on/off a preference? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi,
I think this bug occurs when the clip start value is too small compared to the size of the object. You have to either increase clip start or reduce the size of the object. Let me know if it works for you.

Hey,

I usually get this sort of issue whenever I use Cavity and Outline at the same time. Try unchecking one or both of those in the Viewport Shading menu.

Thanks loopkin and 81U3 for the responses. Very much appreciated.

It was the clip start value in my case. I had a small value and once I increased it, the weird effect was fixed.

Yay!

Have a great day!

You’re welcome graeme_h :grinning:

On which platform do you work?
I’m on macOS…

Windows 10.

It is therefore a multiplatform bug.
Is there a way to report this to Blender?

Not sure if it still works but you can try.

Actually this isn’t a bug.
There is a warning in the manual:
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/editors/3dview/properties/sidebar.html#dview-view-clip

Cool. Nice to know. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything in that manual. I’ll keep that in mind next time. Thanks!

I got this under Linux - clip start settings don’t matter. Any other solutions?

Makes it also impossible to place something on a surface properly, it’s like the surface is simply - broken?
