What do you do? Other than blender?

I currently learning anatomy so I can be able to make 3D character models.
But other than artwork I like to do weaving, crochet, spinning yarn, cooking.

I started repairing and collecting old vintage synthesizers. I even started my YT channel so that I can share what I’m doing.

That’s…so weird.

I pulled mine out of storage earlier this month, and have been doing exactly that.

There is something strangely relaxing about it. But I can also see some similarities to using Blender. Fundamentally electronic circuits are node trees and structures. Each electronic component is a very basic node doing a specific thing.

I’ve found it a slight challenge to avoid clicking BUY NOW on ebay, every time I see something i wanted but couldn’t afford when I was younger (especially now that some vintage gear is cheaper than when it was new.)

So for now, I’m just repairing and updating. Though I did snag a mixer and fx unit for a steal.

Music, playing guitar & bass, though guitar is my main thing.
My Youtube channel has a fair bit of stuff I get up to.

Our group has a facebook page too.

I enjoy doing 3D, but music is who I am more than what I do.

I use Illustrator and Photoshop for work so Blender is in that pipeline, but Blender is also how I relax and unwind. Aside from that, I draw and paint and write music on my guitar, and want to get into luthiery. I do some graphics work for my CO2 laser for etching glass, metal and wood.

I do music production, have been in a couple of bands, it is more electronic based, think metal and industrial… Have been doing this as a stress relief for a long time and in the past tried to do the whole rock star path  and that failed horribly so now I just do it because I love working on new music, remixes, mashups, etc… especially when 3D artwork is just bothering me and I can’t GET IT, whatever the IT is I will throw on some music and do something else or make music myself. I have been doing it so long that my child has expressed enough interest that I set up an old laptop with Ardour and some other decent FOSS audio software, my studio monitors and a Focusrite audio interface and she liked it so yeah I guess it’s a bonding experience.

Back about 10 years ago I got into drone technology right before it really took off and became a thing, using Blender sometimes for tasks related. Even bought a PX4 autopilot unit that still sits on my desk to this day. Should have made something out of the technology but serious investment is needed. I did do a lot of virtual flights using the hardware unit interfaced with the software but actual fly time was minimal.

There are a lot of things that interest me and I get sidetracked by them from time to time but those are like my favorite activities other than 3D.

What are you working on?

I used to do things, now I have a six month old

At this very moment (started a half hour ago) replacing panel switches (a few dead ones, might as well replace all) and some IC chips on a JX10.

A genius out there reverse engineered the firmware, and created a mod that allows sysex patch transfer, and also adds PWM to the waveforms as well as the classic Roland arpeggiator.

Earlier this month - replaced panel switches on my D50 and repaired a bad connection on an audio jack, and installed a scsi board into my ASR10.

So I’m pretty much doing everything in order from Easy to OMG.

BTW - I took a quick glance at your YouTube channel - count me as a subscriber! Planning to watch a lot of vids in the next few days.

I cook. Sometimes I engage in other hobbies like sewing (I’m getting pretty good at making jeans for myself) and crochet. never tried spinning my own yarn though. Recently I’ve been designing and printing gaming minis.

I mountain bike, but road cycling scares the crap out of me. I find way too many car drivers are distracted and don’t really pay attention or maintain safe distances. But if I could find a road where only bikes are allowed on, I would road bike.

Los Angeles has this thing a couple of times a year or so called Ciclavia where they actually shut down roads to traffic. It’s quite fun (although I’m sure many drivers hate it).

Oh man, I remember that. Don’t worry, in 30+ years you’ll be back to what you were doing. I feel for you. Sleep is a distant fond memory. You will get to sleep again in a few years.

As for what I’m doing other than work. I have a Honda Blackbird (something I wanted as a teenager) and drive it as fast as I dare. It’s perfect for an old guy with high blood pressure and bad reflexes. On the upside, I won’t need that retirement plan I never started. They say it’ll do 300 kph. I’ll take their word for it.

Indeed be careful on the road. It might be healthy to ride the bike but I saw a guy loose all his health in a split second (was really the fault of both in this case) but it can and does happen. Mountain biking is far more sane in most cases, usually the worst is hitting a tree or something, not getting run over.

Me too, but for city riding I ride the sidewalks whenever possible. Sidewalks are never ever busy in my part of town but still I am 100% respectful of pedestrians.

Up here in Ottawa, Canada I ride all year round! 3 sets of different types of treads! Here’s Bikey and Marms (2016 Kona Kahuna and Marmot backpack) winter snow stylin’ on my property sporting a set of amazing Schwalbe Ice Spiker Pro tires…

… notice the Topeak Redlite Aero rear light on the seat post and the Cateye Strada Wireless computer in the middle of the handle bar and on the fork too and Bikey’s Kona handle bar bell :beers:

I am a glassblower. I use Blender to design my sculptural vessels. It is a great tool for visualizing my ideas since I can see them in three dimensions. I believe I am the only glassblower who designs like this.

Image on left is Blender. Image on right is the finished glass piece.
