What do you use Blender for?

In-game assets at a commercial game studio. I use blender in conjunction with photoshop, crazybump, and maya for exporting to our proprietary engine. I do everything except normal map generation in blender (modeling high poly and LOD versions, uv unwrapping, AO baking etc). I’m so much happier than the people who are fighting Maya here everyday

Great to see Blender being put to productive use. I find having a specific goal helps keep up the motivation to keep climbing the learning curve…

I use Blender for:

  • Commercial production
  • Posters
  • Packaging design
  • 3D mascots
  • 2D & 3D logos
  • Game idea & concept proofing
  • Product presentations
  • Video editing
  • Subtitling
  • Character design
  • Product visualization
  • Animation

And as my personal little sandbox for new ideas & learning…

I don’t use it a lot, or i still have that concept in mind, while probably reality is that am actually using it quite in my job…

used it for making several game characters, and animate them, for certain shareware games.
Also for game models I make for other people.
Mascots. (as all above, also UVed and textured inside blender)
model & renders for emulating photos when a stock photo, or photoedit wont do for the case…for press/web design stuff.
as base elements of designs, in some cases
for fast guides of perspective, when not starting from plain paper.
sometimes for icons, or some UI elements.
Even for some video compositing effects.

and more things…not too much, but a bit of all.
