This is too funny - I was just looking around the net for the same answer. From what I was able to gather, w00t is 1337-speak for ‘Woo!’, which is a shortened version of ‘woohoo!’ So, if what I read was correct, it is 1337 for an expression of excitement or joy.

wonderful loot? and here i was thinking that was what people were referring to when saying ‘lewt’. i always think of woot (or w00t if you wanna be l337 (leet )) as being something like woohoo. ah well, maybe i’m just a n00b…
