What feaature film projects exist using Blender?

Oh, do hijack away, please!

What I was wanting to avoid was turning this into an in-depth discussion about producing dream indie movies - 3D movies even worse - which is no small subject, and with a lot of history here on Blender Artists.

Rather than a discussion about projects already out there which are being produced, with budgets by professionals.

I spoke up because I just wanted to list my project which is at the low end in terms of budget and support. But it is there and I have been working on it for a long time and so I thought it might be a valid entry.

On that note did anyone mention Ubisoft?

While we all know they are adapting Blender. It should be noted that this is the Film and TV department. Which means almost certainly there will be a feature in the works eventually.

Not just promotional shorts and cutscenes? What points at a feature film?

There’s also this masterpiece:

It is their film and Tv division.

Just guessing a feature will be in the works eventually.

Oh wow, never knew they had one, just thought they licensed stuff out and launched lawyers at it! And their trackr ecord includes… mainly the Assassin’s Creed movie. Ouch. But hey, it looked good, so I’m now impatient to see what they’ll come up with using Blender!

And I now NEED to see Rabbids Invasion. Which makes me a horrible person. And somehow, I’m okay with that…

there is this one too, the director of The Book of Life, he is making a series for netflix , the irony it’s called " maya and the three":rofl:btw it’s his dream project that he thought no one will help him make it until now.

It’s not a feature film but most of the VFX in the tv show The Man In The High Castle are made with Blender as well. It’s not always the most convincing looking but it’s generally pretty good.

just a cesar for this one, 50% made with blender …

@Richard_Culver. It would be interesting to hear your pipline and approach. That kind of information is vaulable for the Blender Community. Plus, helps when cross correlating information from other sources on pipeline and development.

lol… well it is interesting because I just made the very very hard decision after 15 years to scrap my long time feature project for now. And focus on shorter “completeable” projects.

Here I went and side tracked the whole thread - like I said I wouldn’t. Self moderated. Sorry about that…

I agree with a lot of that. Not all, but a lot. I wish western culture would be more open about how goddam hard it is to get something, anything, working. We blind ourselves with ideas of the perfect marriage, perfect friends, perfect jobs, and above all, the idea that “if I really, really want it, I can do it!”. May The Secret and all its ilk burn in The Bad Place.

I do not entirely agree with the definite sense of impossibility, though. I have had the positive attitude beaten the hell out of me over the last 10-15 years, from a looot of angles, but I’ve noticed how much can actually be achieved, even by few people. It takes persistence, resources, connections, and LUCK, but the question is not, in my mind, “will you waste your time on something you cannot possibly achieve?”, but instead, “will you work your ass off, sacrificing many, many things in life, for the 0.25% chance that something, anything, comes out of it in the end, even if that something is far from what you wanted/expected when going into it?” I don’t play the lottery, because that is pure chance and the odds suck massively. But if I can fiddle even the slightest with the dice (I know, no dice in lottery, you get my point), I will always try to figure out an angle. And if I find some wriggle room, I may just go for that 0.25% shot!

My work with the horrible, ugly, baaaad feature film I’m doing now continues. It won’t finish at the original deadline, I can already see that, but I have pushed my limits enough already, and learned a lot about how my brain works when doing so, that I am considering a ‘real’ project sometime next year. I’m also considering laying the groundwork for it already now, and reading your sad message (I was really rooting for ya, man, you worked so hard and got so far!), I am thinking I might start doing some pipeline videos to get the idea of small team feature films with Blender more out there. Yes, it’s a faint echo of my once naivelypositive attitude, but I think I also just want revenge against the grumpy man who lives inside of me now, telling me that nothing is worth striving for and yada yada.

'Cause that guy is a JERK!

If anyone would be interested in seeing my work at a Blender-centered feature film pipeline and movie production, let me know. It won’t be tomorrow, but maybe over the next few months…

Ton tweeted this today, It looks like we might see Agent 327 feature film after all.
If he secures financial support or Studios interest that means Blender will go through real Hollywood production and be tested on larger scale, lets hope that’s the big reveal.
