What happened to the UV Sphere

Anyone else get this? I don’t use Blender all the time, but I remember this being different. I’m on the latest version (2.76b), and the “lines” of the UV Sphere actually get worse if I subdivide, subsurf, etc… Normals are fine, but this thing has over 150,000 verts, smooth shading, etc…and looks awful:


Adding makes it even worse. Is this a bug or have I gone insane?

Looks like you have used Simple subdivide, not Catmull-Clark


Exactly! But I do have catmul selected lol…driving me nuts. I do see a difference when I switch between the two, but it’s a pittance…like it’s just blurring the edges…

Ensure you didn’t subdivide the mesh before you added the subsurf modifier

This is the correct result in that case and would have been so in previous blender versions
