What is the best version of blender to get working on this old laptop please?
Even if I have to go back to 1.49, any blender is better than no blender.
It does not seem old. My pc is from 2011 (and runs Blender 4.0) and my laptop from 2014 (Intel 4600 graphics and runs Blender 3.6). I am pretty sure yours can run Blender 3.6 which is a nice version.
Its the entrylevel Stoneridge APU from about 2017 and the GPU is GCN2.0, so in principle it should run blender. Its wont be a fast experience and the 4gb RAM might turn out to be too less, its below the official minspecs.
But I’d simply install the current blender version and just see how it runs.
I agree with @kyrgr, but I use 2.9 and it’s still pretty fast and reliable. I personally don’t think that you always need the newest versions, though they can be helpful. I also recommend 2.83, which is an older but still reliable version, 3.6 is a good version as well and has a LTS too, totally up to you really. also I know this is old and you might not read this, but thought I might put input anyways lol
