What is the best way of texturing and lighting?

I’ve been working with Blender for near 7 months now, and so far I’ve only done game modifications with UV mappings. But I’ve always wanted to make good textures on a rendered picture, and lighting for that matter too.
So if someone could tell me what’s the best way of texturing and also a good lighting tutorial, I’d be most happy. :slight_smile:
