What technique should I use for...

I have a scene with a jeep driving fast through sand. Obviously, the sand is going to be kicked up by the wheels. I do not know how I should go about simulating this in blender. Suggestions?

Maybe a particle system, but with a LOT of tweaking.

I tried this and it worked. Note the Generator in the Graph editor and the separate small portion of the wheel duplicated and moved slightly away from wheel. Colors are just to see what’s going on.

For cycles, you’ll need to create an object to act as the particles, and select that object (instead of “halo” for example) in the particles panel. Otherwise the particles won’t render.
