Playing around with sculpting and photoprojection. Also, jam caustics. Modelled the jam, knife, butter and plate. Mantaflow sim + viscosity for the jam. Quixel Megascans for the rest of the items. Rendered in Cycles.
Went to the Ian Hubert School of taking photos of things (i.e. my breakfast) and then extruding them out. With some displacement and extra sculpting, worked surprisingly well for the spread jam/butter on the bread and the knife.
Pretty simple - after cleaning up original image in GIMP, generated a normal map then imported both into Blender using image as a plane. Subdivided then sculpted a bit to make it conform to the bread. Some transmission and volume absorption to add depth. Done.
Also make sure to add a solidify modifier and make sure normals are facing the correct way.
