What's your system?

Hi all,
I’m brand new here

I was just wondering what PCs you guys run Blender on,
I just got my new computer and I’m pumped!

It’s a standard Emachines, here is a few quick specs…
AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 2.16 MHZ
512MB RAM > 64 for integrated GPU (oooohhh)
160GB HDD…and a lot of other stuff…

The most polys it can posibly handle without Blender crashing is around 2.5 million polys,

Sounds good to me

I’ll bite

COMP 1: Main development Machine
Homebuilt
Athlon 64 3000
512 MB DDR 400 RAM
128 GeForce 5700
80 GB HD
Gentoo Linux

COMP 2: Server/Render Node
Homebuilt
Athlon XP 1700
1 GB DDR 266 RAM
256 GeForce 4 Ti 4600
40 GB HD
Gentoo Linux

COMP3: Wife’s toy/work on the go
Gateway Laptop
PIII-450
288 MB Ram
6.5 GB HD
Windows XP

Athlon 64 3000??!!
Sweet, I whould have wanted one of those…
Im not jelous, honestly, stop looking at me like that…

–Just to let you all know I posted because I just love computer numbers :expressionless:

I don’t know much about my comp but the basics is that it’s an athlon computer at 1.050 Ghz. We also have a new comp. upstairs that’s more then twice as powerful but I don’t use it.

What?!
are you telling me that you are not using the very finest technology for Blender, you should be ashamed
Then again, just last month I was using a-
7year old with a-
Pentium II 2.33 MHz (not very good for giant 5000+poly models :-? )
64MB RAM (again not very good for giant 5000+poly models :frowning: )
2MB GPU (Im not sure just how important a graphics card is for Blender becuase of the Software Rendering, but still sounds preaty bad :x)
And a whopping 1.9GB of space so I could keep all of my 10 files :<
Well that’s all over now, hope nobody else has to survive that…

you are using the wrong numbers

but my [best] laptop is:
pentium 120Mhz
32Mb of ram
1Gb hard disk [30Mb free]
windoze 95(b)
2Mb trident integrated [duh] card [software rendering!!!]

blender was somewhat usuable, but this was 2.27 [before the new ui], and I had more problems with the battery than blender

someone else was running blender on their p-90Mhz

well anway, I have 4 other systems to report

amd k6-2 450Mhz [has sse and 3dnow, like a pentium 2 I guess]
256Mb of ram
voodoo 3 2000 [was in next system before it died]
linux [mandrake 8.1 or 8.2]
6 Gb hard disk

celer[y]on 233Mhz
voodoo 3 2000
3Gb hard disk
linux [mandrake 8.1 or 8.2]

amd athlon xp 2000+ [~1700Mhz]
256-1Gb [now] of ram
nvidia geforce 2 Mx 400, or [now] ati radeon 9600SE
windows 98, windows xp

work:
dell optiplex gx1 or gx110 computers

the gx1:
pentium 3 450Mhz
integrated ati rage 3d pro 16Mb [crap]
pci tnt 16Mb card [used always]
256Mb of ram
windows xp most often

the gx110: [I use them much more]
pentium 3 733Mhz
integrated intel i82810e graphics chipset [16Mb, evil]
256Mb of ram
windows xp [always]

the hard disks on these systems vary quite a lot. the gx1 systems use mostly 4Gb drives but usually contain 20Gb ones.

the gx110 systems all have 20Gb drives, except mine which has a 40 [at one time it had only 4, that hurt]

Athlon XP2800+
1gb memory
100 gb HD
nvidia geforce4 ti-4200
linux, Debian

and it looks like this:

CPU: 2.2gig pentium 4

RAM: 768mb DDR

HD: 120 gig

VID: Ati Radeon 9600 pro 128mb ddr

Monitor: Mitsubishi DiamondPoint NXM56 LCD

Extra crap: Wacom Graphire3, Line6 Guitar Port, Epson CX5400 3 in 1
OS(s): Main - Windows XP home Secondary (playing around with) Linspire 4.5 …I know I should use a different distro but this one detected my vid card perfectly.

CPU: P4 1.5 GHz
RAM: 256MB RDRAM
HD: 60 GB
Video Card: TNT2
OS: Win2k
Monitor: 19"

Home:
mobile Athlon XP 2600 (around 2ghz)
512 mb ram
ati mobility radeon 9200 64 mb
60 gb hd

Work:
Pentium4 3ghz
512 mb ram
nvidia geforce fx 5700
120 gb

Blender works fast and without errors on both machines

Workstation / Main Rendering 'puter
P4 2.4GHz
1GB RAM
120 GB SATA HD
Radeon 9200
Linux

Laptop - 15" Powerbook G4
1.5GHz PowerPC
1GB RAM
80GB HD
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 - 128MB
OSX Panther

Laptop - DELL Inspiron 7500
PIII 650MHz
256MB RAM
30GB HD
ATI RAGE Mobility 8MB
W2K

Those are what I use for Blender [and associated 3D apps - renderers, file converter, etc.] The DELL only gets used for MS-only apps or testing Blender for Windows. Both the Mac and the Linux box run Blender well.

6507, 1.19 MHz
RAM: 128 Bytes, in VLSI
ROM: 4K max
GRAPHICS: Stella, a custom graphics chip that controlled the synchronization to the TV and all other video processing tasks
Graphics Clock: 1.19 MHz
2 Joystick ports.

AMD XP 3000+, 1.5gig ram.
320gig disk space
gforce 5950 ultra 256meg
linux- optimized for amd. gentoo.

PS (how dowes the amd64 run blender compared to the amd32???- Very interested)

[edit]

I could use a machine that powerful with the one we have upstairs, but instead I just use our second oldest one that luckily still has a good amount of punch. But I am planning on ditching the current computer I use and buy one of those new ones that can go at and over 3 Ghz.

AthlonXP 1800
512mb RAM PC2100
60gb ata100
GeForce 2 ti
Audigy Platinum
A lot of case fans ;).

Cheers,

b01c

im the holder of the sloooooooooooooooow record. (i think). when i dont have acess to my home computer i can use a laptop.

here are the stats:

a super fast pentium 75 mhz processor
a mindblowing 8 MB ram.
i dont know how slow my graphics card is.
and windows 95 installed.

alltogether not the recommended machine.

but that means for the owner of a brand new machine that you can render very fast without crashing.

AMD athlonXP 1,5 ghz (max overclock (2.0 ghz)
1024 mb Ram, (512 enabled, pc uses only 350 max ever, never got over it)
60gb hd
Geforce 2 Ti (need new one, doesn’t support shadow in blender game engine)
Soundblaster Pro

I want: (have to wait some years, but I’ll do that :P)

AMD AthlonXP 5.0 ghz
1,024 or 2.0gb Ram
200 gb HD drive
Geforce ??? just 1 gb ram minimum (i know it’s comming, readed it on beyondunreal.com about that) and minimum 2 monitor support.
Sound card with surround support and able to plug my LP thing in to record them and output to aux for stereo installation in my room :stuck_out_tongue:
