Wheel refuses to rotate correctly

Hey Guys. I’m sure my problem has an easy fix but it has been driving me up the wall for hours now. I followed this tutorial to learn how to set up wheel to work with drivers. As far as I can tell, I followed the instructions exactly but my wheel rotates on the Y axis instead of the X. In the drivers tab, it doesn’t mater what I change the type or the space to, The wheel continues to rotate the wrong way. I have attached the blend file here. any help is greatly appreciated!

Heya, your wheel has an non applied 90° rotation on the Y axis. Shift + A > apply rotation should fix your rotation axis.

Shift + A did not bring up an option to apply transformations but I found the option in the spacebar search box. Unfortunately, nothing seems to have happened? it sounds like you have definitely found my problem but maybe not the solution? I really appreciate the help.

My bad, shortcut is control + A.

If you open the N panel (press N), and have your wheel selected you can see the 90 y rotation, applying it, should put it to 0, it will correct the rotation angle.

The driver is set incorrectly too. As you have it set up, it copy the y rotation of the wheel to the x rotation, with the unapplied rotation, it locks it into place.

To fix it:
Apply the wheel rotation
Fix the driver (set it to Empty instead of Rear-Right-Wheel, Y location, world space).

It should more or less fix the rotation for it to work like in the video you linked.

(That many lights will make your rendering time very long)

Tested it with 2.8, cause my system updated 2.79 to rc1 …

When I set the driver to empty the wheel doesn’t rotate at all. I’m starting to feel like an idiot.

Does this all look right?

it looks correct, so the wheel should rotate if you move the empty along his y axis.

The wheel is still not rotating.
