Whirl, short film

We won the film festival! Updated version we won with below:)

My brother and I have been hard at work again with his class of students. I think they did a superb job with the time and resources they had. There is a lot of blender in here. I did a lot of the rendering, the particle systems and modified the famous Agus3d scene to render the fly down the river in cycles. Most of the river shots were done in Blender Internal, but the rest was rendered in Vue. The king rising out of the river, smoke and transition from water to solid was done in blender with mostly cycles and Blender internal for the smoke and fire. Keep in mind these are grade school students (pre high school) doing the animation and they are doing this as a learning experience. They obviously took on a HUGE task and I can’t wait to see what they do next as they get better and better.

Here is a making of Video:

Eventually we would like to use blender more, but collada isn’t all that reliable from Poser yet, so we have to use a long process involving MDD export from poser to blender import which isn’t practical. (edit the MDD modifier will help tremendously, but pose is TERRIBLE at exporting MDD) Anyway feel free to leave comments on the videos to encourage the kids!

Very nice. looks like it was fun making it

Very good . I wish we had more classes like this in schools.

A interesting story. But the animation was stiff. It’s not as fluid as it could be but for middle schoolers, a great effort on their part.

This was REALLY cool, and had some very nice bits. Neat story, too, and that’s what counts the most.
My compliments to the young student animators. Keep up the good work, kids.

Thanks for the kind comments… the class was written up in the local newspaper:

We won the film festival with the new cut… put new version in header:)

It´s an ambitious project and you and your brother deserves congratulations! It´s a lot of work in that, who does 3D knows that. I think the animation it´s not so good, but think how bit is the project could no be different. You are good modeling, rendering… i think if you learn animate better you can do a smaller project in great quality. But keep on track and follow your heart!
