Whisky

I learned a bit more about material shading and volumetrics in Blender. This was also my first time using compositing in Blender—or any other app besides Photoshop—very cool! Node-based compositing incredibly powerful. A huge thank you to everyone who posted videos suggesting using Evee for the volumetrics to save time. It was an enormous time saver. I have a 10 year-old computer and was still able to render this in around fifteen minutes. The Evee portion was only a minute or two.

Everything on the table was rendered with Cycles. The light rays were rendered with Evee. Then, I used the mist layer and the compositor to combine them.

The background is a free HDRI I downloaded, as are the wood and stone textures for the cutting board and table. Everything else is procedural.

Everything I learned here was from multiple tutorials from various artists on YouTube. I think I watched three or four on compositing, a half dozen or so on using the volume node, and even one quick one on using a material override. Cool feature. :+1:

This all started because I wanted to try out caustics in 3.2. Funny thing is that it’s hardly worth it for this particular image. After modeling the whisky glass, I fell down a rabbit hole Googling what foods go with different types of whisky. I based this composition on multiple images I found in articles about pairing various whiskies with foods.
