Why are people on blenderartists so slow to respond to ANYTHING

damn, for a website that has more members than ever before im getting the feeling blenderartists is slowing down. With 24 people veiwing on a forum at one particular point i chose to post 5 times and i got in 4 before anyone else did and i was taking my time about it.

thats one example and you can argue against that but my point is genreal, people on this website can be sooooo ssslllooooowwwww and it feels like its slowing down

two things:

  1. we have more important things to do

  2. most of the stuff we see doesn’t really interest us. we just don’t have any information to add or anything important to say.

just because you write more doesn’t mean you have any more actual information, just more words.

What SamAdam says ^

And ofcourse it takes time to write something that makes sense and not just a jumble of words.(If it wasn’t for me taking my time to write this I would have replaced “words” with something else.)

Are you speaking English? I don’t really understand what you mean with that first sentence. Are you trying to say you post quicker than other people? Perhaps you should try to get more outside then.

And the word “genreal”… is that some kind of genetically re-inversively engineered approach to things that are not so possibly quite unreal?

This is a forum, not a chatroom. People here have lives, they have to go to school, work, or spend time with their loved ones.

This is a forum, not a chatroom. People here have lives, they have to go to school, work, or spend time with their loved ones.

And that brings me onto this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZNXn6QU7rc
(not recommended for youngsters a few naughty words.)

Would you really want this place to be like that?.. or is it?

I used to respond to a lot more posts, and when I have more free time I generally do. But as said above most people around here have work, school, other hobbies/jobs, etc. that they like to devote time to.

A lot of times too in the help forums I always feel like I have answered the question many, many times (normally because I have). Too many users don’t understand the search function, and it gets boring to type the same thing over and over again. Its just like when you used to have to write apology statements on the board in grade school for punishment. Writing things over and over again almost becomes a punishment.

Also, if I don’t have anything good to say, I don’t say it. There is no point in me wasting BA’s bandwidth and server space with pointless comments and rants (ironic, no?).

But I think in general the answer to your complaint is just that a lot of people just don’t have the time.

we feel insecure about our opinions and don’t wish to be ostracized because of them.:stuck_out_tongue:

but really, it’s just that we have other things to do

I’d be happy if some people replying in the off topic took more time to think before posting…

Martin

I strongly agree. Now, I’m not going to name any names, but there’s a few people in off-topic that I feel are just posting crap. (I don’t know why, maybe they want a higher post-count or something. Maybe it might help if the admins made it so you didn’t see how many posts people have?) I tend to stay away from these threads as much as I can because I generally think there’s going to be hardly any information in there worthwhile.

I think the response to most questions here is usually pretty quick. Other technical type forums I have participated in (with thousands of members) you sometimes have to wait a day or two and it’s against the rules to bump your post within 24 hours. I see folks here bumping and whining about no response an hour after they post.

About the off-topic forum (and all the forums here actually): I think moderators should clamp down on off-topic posting. Oops, this is off-topic… sorry. Who started this… oh, an admin did.

edit: Was joking around that last paragraph. Habitual thread derailers is what I was on about.

What the previous three said.

Why are people on blenderartists so slow to respond to ANYTHING

We ain’t too bright as you city folk. With y’all computers and electricity.

I’m very surprised to hear you say this. The only threads I’ve ever had go unanswered are the ones when no one knows the answer… and they are not only rare, but they usually get a few replies as well. (People saying “I dunno”)

Don’t post things that do nothing but stir up trouble.

Mystery

I saw your post last night, just as it was posted, and I thought to myself that I must really reply to it as quick as possible. Well, now I have. I made ask quick as I can!

hey we aint slow… ooops this thread was two years old

  • no this thread isnt old but it probably has cropped up before (oh i see a joke, haha)
  • i am english but i type badly
  • im not from any bloody city
  • yes i appreciate people have lives and dont always use this site or respond
-talk about wasting bloody bandwidth when theres a 4000+ post “lets play” thread going on just above this

that clears a few things up

nevertheless is it not atleast strange that this website’s traffic is slowing down (atleast as far as i can tell) when its getting more and more members

i cant be the only one who thinks that’s strange

edit - as for you mystery, this is hardly stiring up trouble, grrr

A forum is not just about posting messages but also reading them. A lot of people just like to read. There are 111 guests browsing the forums right now. Why can’t people who are members also just browse? Is it an obligation for us to post a message every time we read a post? Don’t you think it would get annoying if everyone responded to every message posted even when they don’t know the answer, have nothing to say or add? You’d get a question asked and 20 people would respond by “I don’t know” before somebody actually says something useful.

Also, out of curiosity I checked the last couple threads you started and they were all answered in less than an hour except one where your question very wasn’t clear. Why are you complaining? Are you pushing “refresh” every 5 seconds to see if there are new posts? It’s quite simple, just find something else to do like modeling or simply browsing other forums, then come back a couple hours later. I can understand you can get bored sometimes but what did you expect from this thread?
