why ball looks like that after I joined meshes?

hi,
i created four meshes of basketball patterns. So, i could join them as object for animation. Ok, What I did was joined them by following orders: ball.003,ball.002, ball.001, last original ball. I use CTRL + J keys. After that, surface on meshes look not normal. look at these images. I wonder why? did I missed something before I could join them?

Go into Edit Mode, Vertex Selection, select all vertices, and in the Tool panel/window, click Recalculate Normals.

That should clear things up for you. If not, click Remove Doubles and Recalculate Normals again.

@ rontarrant, I took your advice, it works!!! many thanks!
