Why can't I...?

Hey i’m not totally new to blender, but the most ive made is pottery so i decided to step outside my comfort zone:

Now i went to uv unwrap, but it won’t let me enter edit mode, any help?

Went to UV unwrap MODE, or went to unwrap your model? If the former, what version of blender are you using? The newer versions of blender have all of the UV unwrap tools in edit mode. Have you tried using both the GUI and tab to go into edit mode?

yes ive used both tab and the interface to try to get into edit mode, i use the latest version, and i was just trying to get to uv unwrap

Nevermind i figured it out

But now i have another question, what’s this all about when i try to test my UV? and then it wont render with the uv:
