Why does my rendered image look different in blender render window vs actual output?

It’s a cube object I’ve instanced in particle system. The output on blender render window looks like this:


But the image looks like this (flat):

This is the material on the cube (I’ve modified the volume to make it look like a sphere)

The idea for doing this was that so the particle system would have less geometry to process (cube vs sphere).

But the output looks flat later, why is that?

Note: The same issue does not occur when spheres are instanced.

Have you tried to switch between View Transform options under Color Management tab?

Yes, on your suggestion right now - I tried all the view transform options. The problem persisted.

Also, make sure that both of Scene Lights and World options are turned on for your viewport shading

Done. Both were/are turned on.
