Why drivers are not connected to depth of field of camera?

hi…
i want an ‘Empty’ obj to control the depth of field(dof)
that is present in the camera settings.
Have created a property (a tool) named ‘DOF’ in
Empty obj.
Now want to connect camera’s ‘depth of field’ to ‘DOF’ of Empty.
I used Drivers, there is no change happning when i change values in
DOF property.
what mistake am i doing ? or
what shoild i type in field inside the Driver settings…

plz help…
thank you

There’s no need to use drivers… just select the Empty in the ‘Focus on Object’ property.

Thanks for response bro.

i basicaly want to understand drivers and the syntax expression i should type to get anything done.

Drivers let you update a property value, whenever there’s a change in the scene.
In your case, you simply use the ‘Distance’ as you Input variable type, and pick both the Empty and Camera.
driver

I wouldn’t say this is the best way to learn Drivers, because there’s so much you can do…

Also: “Many things have changed about Blender – some quite recently and quite quickly.” Some “older” videos refer to drivers because, at that time, it was the only way to do it. That might or might not still be the case now.
