Just a little Companion Cube from the game Portal (see Orange Box for Xbox 360) I finished modelling a while ago. It still needs some work; I could cut the poly count down a lot and I haven’t colored it at all or anything. Just want to see what you guys think. I’ll put up a blend file when I’ve finished it completely.
Looks cool (as does Portal; now I have to get the Orange Box…). You should uv texture it.
Yeah, I plan on doing the UVing today, actually. Shouldn’t take long at all, considering it’s the same on each side pretty much.
Alright, here’s the final(?) product, at least for now. I worked on it all day at school, and I think it’s a good companion cube model. The UV texture is very simple; I considered adding detail (such as some scratches or whatever), but I preferred it to be flawless like it is.
Anyways, here it is, my Aperture Science Weighted Companion Cube. Isn’t she pretty? I love her. She’ll never lie to me…

Compare it to the first picture and you’ll notice some differences. Firstly, those corner pieces are much more robust, they stick out more (like the cube should). Also, the newer one is actually textured, unlike the old one, and it is also shiney. At one point, I kinda started over, but not really. When I started, I made one side of the whole cube, used an array modifier (cause I was still learning and thought I could use practice), and I changed my mind eventually. I deleted a large portion of the cube, left one corner alone, and used a mirror modifier instead. I had to make some small adjustments, but not anything major. After that, I used a UV sphere, cut it in half, and slapped it on each side of the cube. It should be pretty precise, because I used mirror mods while the 3D cursor was in the center (shift+c) and rotated it 90 (locked to grid with ctrl). I’m very proud of this little thing. It’s not much at all, but I love the game Portal and I’m very satisfied with how this looks. Here’s a picture of the actual cube for a reference.

Where’s the cake?
btw, does anyone know how to access that finale song? I LOVED IT! I cannot bring myself to repeat the final level again.
Real cube seemed whiter, cleaner. Do you want it that white?
I had it looking more like the cubes in the game, but in the end I liked the brighter ones. Oh, also, if you want that song, I have it. I could email it to you sometime. Or you can look it up yourself.
