[WIP]Bevel after Boolean

Just a reminder: The best version of this addon is the 0.09 and it works , most succesfully, with Blender’s 2.79 version.

Btw, I put below the link to a tutorial I have made some years ago about some modelling ways that someone can follow through the abilities which the addon offers (there are some other related tutorials too in my Youtube channel):

Hello!
Do I understand correctly that when using the Exact boolean solver, the vertex attribute values are lost? Can anyone confirm or deny this information?

Just wanna say I recently downloaded 2.79b just to use this add-on, it works PERFECTLY in 2.79b and it is truly remarkable in its workable form.
This add-on is WONDERFUL

If only the A.I. can completely rewrite it for Blender 4.2.2 ;p

Well, yes, 2.79 have lots of technical enhancements which was lost during 2.8 transition which was focused mostly at compositional part.
Our studio use 2.79 for the entire technical part of a work, and something from 2.8+ for compositional part (taking into account that we proposed and prototyped nodebased modeling approach a decade ago)

this really looks like mesh machine’s offset cut

Decided to drop my last geonodes setup based on this thread suggestions in case if somebody would be interested in further research

requires blender 4.2 (menu switch mode)

Current workflow:

  • assign geonodes setup
  • pick boolean object
  • pick mode (difference, union, intersection)
  • assign bevel modifier in weight mode
  • copy bevel amount as driver for underlying geonodes rim radius parameter
  • repeat

Wow! Thanks for sharing @Nikita_Bukoros! This is so cool!!

I tested it out with the new fast booleon, and its kinda realtime now!!

Around 30-50ms!

Thank you for sharing the setup!

Can be used without subd somehow?

Thank you again.

Yes it can be used without subd, but currently this approach have some limitations

You can see in preview mode that in this case cutting tube has self-intersections
Need to make workaround for this somehow

Well, that is why was asking. What to tweak to get it work correctly.

Hope the original BAB addon gets updated…

Thx anyway.

I love how this project lives by someone constantly adding to it. I hope all this thread will one day get fully integrated in blenders bevel.

After playin a bit, looks higher resolution is needed to get it work.

There are ways to delete all inner points, making something watertight. The way I do it is through setting the Boolean modifier to ‘Collection’ and selecting no Collection. Not sure if this method is available to GN at all, but I hope so! There are also several GN curve setups that attempt (quite succesfully!) to guarantee even thickness and the correct angle for corners, which might help too.
here’s a thread discussing a possible (but unimplemented) node, where several of these existing solutions get posted too: https://devtalk.blender.org/t/curve-to-mesh-node-even-thickness-feedback-thread

One is @higgsas 's setup from https://blendermarket.com/products/geometry-nodes-groups, and as he shares a ton of free setups on here as well, maybe he’d be willing to donate such a setup to this project?
